A writ is "a written order issued by a court, commanding the party to whom it is addressed to perform or cease performing a specified act."

A warrant is "a judicial writ authorizing an officer to make a search, seizure, or arrest or to execute a judgment."

A warrant enables an officer to enforce a writ.
