And another thing... Actually, I'm not too bothered about this, but there seems to be a debate going on about the new motorway warning 'Don't drive tired'. Pedants (and I'm not ashamed to call myself one) insist that this is grammatically appalling, but the only alternative they've come up with is the less-than-snappy 'Tired? Don't drive'. (Chocolates? No Maltesers'). Any thoughts? (Spookily, as I write this I can hear John Humphreys on the Today Prog reading out a letter about it. Zeitgeist or what?)
Pedants all will be annoyed at the further erosion of basic grammar that holds our language together, but I think correct grammar has been sacrificed in the name of a memorable ad. slogan, and if anyone takes notice and remembers it, I will keep a lid on my pedantry for now.
Ooops, you're quite right, Cynthia, though, believe it or not I did know that, it was just a typo. Anyhow, I guess it's worth mentioning that claiming to be a pedant doesn't mean that one's always right, hence my error, etc.....
