Last line of literary work

Does anyone know which book this last line comes from?

"Dorothy shivered,crossed herself again,and began to pray."

It's not "The Wizard of Oz"!

Oh! its not middlemarch is it?

The only thing I can think of is to go to a copy and have a look, and I dont have one. Dorothy Casaubon is a bit of a pray-er I seem to recollect.
