Im currently doing a VRQ (Vocationally Related Qualification) in Motor vehicle engineering with City and Guilds and at the same time I have been working at a pub, I have just started training as a chef in the pub after working as a Kitchen Porter since September in the same pub. My boss and the head chef at work have suggested that along with the training, i should look at getting an NVQ in Professional cookery (level 2), (also with City and Guilds), my dad is an NVQ assessor so he would be my assessor. I have spoken to my dad about this and he has said that i cannot do another government funded qualification at the same time as doing the Motor Vehicle VRQ, because the government would be paying for 2 qualifications at once. What i want to know is; Is this the same case with a VRQ, I payed £130 for the course, i am wondering if this money was to pay for the qualification (therefore meaning it is not government funded) or to pay for the resources which i are provided by the college (albeit rubbish resources!). Has anyone else been in this situation of wanting to do 2 qualifications at once and if so, was there a way around it or am i going to have to wait until i have finished the VRQ???
