Limited by region, so narrows down the possible answers - I know, but nevertheless:-
Went in a pub earlier, called The Bell (not an unusual name, which doesn't help) but which is situated in Bedmond (Herts).
Was told it was originally a boat (barge ?) which was towed up to it's current position by horses - from where & to where is unknown - but something (apparently) happened & it got abandoned there - then, at some point in time, someone decided to turn it into a "pub".
It apparently dates back to 1500 (ish).
Have had a quick look on the net, but can't find out if this is true . . . . ?
Can anyone help ???
