Hey sorry I wasn't around earlier but I see you AnswerBank sleuths have solved the mystery without me:) I can confirm they are all Swedish. 'Färg' means paint or colour (the nouns), 'papper' is paper and 'vartvit' is... er, is one letter short. It should be 'svartvit', which means black-and-white.

that would make sense, swedeheart, as it's from my STUPID ricoh printer. for some reason, all the messages and instructions are in swedish. It's at work and driving us all mad!
We have to guess what it means, each time an error message comes up.
Perhaps I could call on your linguistic services, should I get stuck again?

Absolutely crisgal, I'll help if I can and if I'm about. When I am, I usually check in on this topic once a day. Only problem is, as I'm a born and bred Swede and still living in Sweden, I may not necessarily be able to translate printer-related words - you know, like, the different parts of the printer. On the other hand, my eldest sis works for a company that sells office machinery, so between us we ought to be able to figure things out - I've you've got the patience to wait while we figure:)

as it's not my responsiblity - that is I'm not the boss - i can't really do anything about it.
We have tried everything to change the language, but it always goes back to swedish.
When it's working, it's a great printer. But if anything's wrong, we don't know what it's telling us!

Crisgal I asked my sister but they don't sell Ricoh:( Seems to me there are two possible solutions, one, your boss contacts the seller or, two, I help you translate the part of the instructions (you do have a written manual?) that deals with setting the default language - that is to say, if you can identify that part of the handbook...

I'm totally willing to help you translate the printer's own messages on the display as well, if that's what you want, but it seems more impractical than the other two solutions as you'd all be standing around the beeping printer on a daily basis and waiting for me to log in... Ha ha, this will end with you learning Swedish:)

Eddie I have found Google translate to be absolutely brilliant with some sentences and totally crap with others:)

PS sometimes operating instructions can be found online, if you have the exact name of the machine in question - sometimes on the manufacturer's site, sometimes on others.
