Cutting dead branch off a potted Acer
Last year the Acer in a pot almost died from lack of water. We rescued it just in time by re-potting and watering. The trunk is strong and one fork above it is flourishing, but the other quite thick forked branch (approx 2" in diameter) has died completely and I will need to cut it off close to the trunk. Advice please, 1. What time of year should I do this? 2. What do I put on the trunk to preserve it and prevent bacteria penetrating?
