Coventry Area Local History

Would I need to visit Coventry or Warwick archives for information on a farm in Finham (CV3 6) - it's not clear as sometimes the address is Finham, Coventry, and others it's FInham, Warwickshire ............ also how can I access a census record for a specific address? I have ancestry access but don't know how to find an individual property as have only ever searched by name.... TIA

you can search by address, in the census search page, just type the full address into the Location box and the entries come up, click on the first one and then scroll through the actual census pages til you get the right house/farm etc

as regards the farm, you may need to check the tithe maps for the mid 19th century and the tithe apportionments which list the size, use, tennant and owner of each portion, they will be at the county record office, you can take tracing paper and a pencil and trace the map and pay a few pounds for a photocopy of the apportionment, tithe maps are not easy to work with and the search room staff will roll it our for you on a very large table and you can locate the right location by checking the apportionment book that comes with the map. it is not easy to photocopy a tithe map which is why the archivist allows tracings.
Before the tithes you can look at the land tax assessments from aboiut 1784 - 1832 (these are actally on the familysearch pilot) the land tax lists the owner, tenant and acreage and names of every field, property and how much the anual land tax was .
These are also at the county record office.
Depending on the size and age of the farm, there may be estate papers for a manor that include details of the tenancy down the years.
Also you can possibly look for records of the Manor Courts which would date from back into the 1200s and may show the inheritance of the title down the years, to find which manor thwe property came under check the victoria county history at your local ref library for that area and the manor is listed ,

type Finham Coventry into the location box and all the households for Stoneleigh come up which include Finham Green

On the 1901 census Finham Green is under Stoneleigh, whats the name of the farm?

Its address today is hill farm, kings hill lane, then either Finham, Warks or Finham , Coventry Does this allow you to find it?
