Hello All EV N&C Winw Clubbers,
As with last last couple weeks, DC should be empty again this week. We must be heading for a MrO composition!

Agree DocHH!

No hesitation on this one!
Should have added, according to my father the author was a distant ancestor.
Er...I don't get it at all! Admittedly have only spent a very short time on it as have been catching up with yesterday's GK & Sat Cryptic (all Sats for the next month taken up with judging, so always a day behind at w/e's) but think will need some hints by Tuesday!
First really good days here for ages so Himself has been roaring round the haylage field and is now clock-watching for the contractor, I have hacked my way through the loganberry and raspberries without the prospect of getting soaked, so a little order has been restored to the fruit garden. Back to it......

Hello Novalis and Devadolly,
Many apologies for awful typing and grammar in my original post starting this thread! Devadolly, there is a heavy hint in Novalis's initial post, and to be honest I didn't hang around solving this EV either.
Dd, we have been out mowing all day too - the minute the weather bods said that summer was finished and it would rain until November we gave a big cheer. Today has been our nicest day for some moons! Good luck with all your, much larger, fields and acres. Stick with today's EV and once you have cold solved a few crossing answers you will, hopefully, have a mini pdm; oh, and reread the instructions before you start thinking about the quotation....
.... but don't wait around too long (the hints seem to be flying in from all directions).
Hi folks, back from the mountains of California. I (think I) latched on to the method of adjusting entries after about 3 clues, so what remains is what looks like a pretty uninteresting slog to the finish. Maybe I'll be surprised. I am about 1/2 done; took a break to clean the basement, which was overdue. I'll get back to EV while keeping an eye on the baseball this afternoon.
The h-g is glued to the golf, dr b. Lovely views of Lake Michigan.

Jogler(s) I must admit to be struggling with the relevance of the EV title. Have tried treating it thematically, but have got nowhere! Paying more attention to typing now!
Hope you enjoyed the hiking drb, pretty sad that you're straight back into cleaning the basement! Why not just close the door on it and enjoy the sport, without any sense of guilt!
To tell the truth, we had quite forgotten about the title. The h-g is turning his massive intellect to the task now ... so I guess I will be back to you tomorrow, maybe.
DocHH, an anagram of the name is a thematic part of the quotation

Thank you turnerjmw, I'd tried that, but including all the first word, but was misguidedly looking for something that was related to the treatment of the answers, rather than the operative! I can relax now with my Tempranillo!
Well, I put off getting back to this all afternoon, which turns out to be pretty ironic, don't you think? As I feared, the penny dropped way too soon for me. Oh well, at least I have a really clean basement.
Got back from holiday late yesterday afternoon. I had been missing my tea and crossword of an afternoon and settled into EV. Unfortunately ran out of time as had to the the unpacking and suffered the same ironic moment as dr b when it all fell into place this morning!
After the disappointment of a "Printer's Devilry" Listener, I was rather hoping for more of a challenge from EV. After the PDM it is all pretty pedestrian.....I could have completed this fairly well sozzled.....pity it was lunchtime.
Hi BobbyCollins!

I've been known to complete some rather more challenging Evs than this on Sunday evenings after a couple of glasses of full-bodied red. Given my low tolerance to alcohol that can mean "sozzled". It often helps!!

My message, for everyone, is "drink responsibly, in other words, please don't spill any! I also thought that University was a fountain of knowledge, where students went to learn to drink! I believe my Alma Mater, and therefore Devadolly's has the longest bar in the UK! To get a degree there must therefore.....................!
Hi DocHH!

I always drink responsibly! With the proposed introduction of pricing per unit in Greater Manchester not a single drop will go to waste. ( I'm close enough to the W. Yorkshire border to pop over there if it is introduced here! )

Thank goodness for that Novalis! We had a Local Talking Newspaper Association Committee Meeting today, as it finished at a time when the sun was well over the yard arm, and I had a while to wait for the bus home, I popped into the nearby Wetherspoons! At £1.40 a pint for Ruddles, it seemed rude not to have a second, so I missed the next bus too! Got home and sat on the patio doing the 3 crosswords in todays Telegraph, would you believe it I was temporarily flummoxed by the Quick Crossword in the NE corner, sorted now though! Am celebrating with some Tempranillo!
Hello All, well, I am really in DC this week. Too much fruit & veg processing has addled my brain, it is defeating me despite all your hints, pdm is so far removed it is probably sitting in drb's yard (welcome back by the way, how was the outback, sorry, the New World rather than the Down-under edition?) Am I right in thinking it has something to do with a certain well sung about letter, and the omission thereof?
Indeed DocHH we were tutored well at the Establishment were we not? No matter how many sheets were to the wind, it was not considered good form to waste an alcoholic beverage. Incidentally, mentioned the Purple O to another wastrel from L and he went into raptures about how awful it was!! Do you also remember the Harlequin and the Wheatsheaf?
