Have installed one and the USB and card reader connections were easy. I would also like to be able to plug in the audio plugs active, but not what goes where.

To get Legacy AC’96 definition would it be correct to connect plug
MICR on MIC2 pin
MICL on MICPRW pin
GND on AGND pin
FrontR on LineoutR pin
FrontL on LineoutL pin
And leave the other plugs free, I think they are for 6.1 audio.

My main worry is the microphone pins, left channel on a power pin?????

Looks to me like you have a stereo connector on the front panel and only mono on the header.

The micpwr would be used for electret microphone as they require a 5v feed to work.

I'd connect the micL to the mic2 and leave the micR disconnected (traditionally micL is used rather than micR when connecting to mono).

(you also have to make sure the header is switched to AC-97 in the bios as it can also be a digital output.)

Hi Chuck. I've probably done something wrong but followed your advice and reset the chipset to AC'97 in bios, but still no luck, neither microphone nor speaker.

Got hold of a mic socket from an old computer and installed in one of the vacant panel face plates, looks quite good even if I do say so myself. Didn't want to ruin the new panel connections. Attached an used stereo wire with plug and plugged into back mobo socket. Works a treat.

Now she's bought a webcam with usb plug so didn't need a front mic socket afterall. GGrrr.... hate it when that happens.

If she want to record from the computer now she'll just have to use a USB flash drive and plug it into her player. Everything seems to have a USB port nowadays.
