Why is it called Adultery when it is a pretty juvenile thing to do ?
I think Cambridge is being sexist.

It suggests that only men can be adulterers.
its very egotistical
Question Author
so a single friend of mine who is seeing a married man is not an adulterer?
No, but she is a very silly girl.
She's certainly a fundemental part of the 'adultery' though...............

Is she splitting hairs and trying to justify her actions ?
Question Author
i know she is a silly girl and told her she was committing adultery but she said she wasnt.
this is a common line of thinking, especially on AB, but I'm not sure it's true. My dictionary just describes adultery as sex (voluntary) between a married person and someone who's not their partner - either sex. And an adulterer is someone committing adultery. That tells me that your friend is an adulterer. It's not the same as infidelity - only the married partner is guilty of that.
