...new to me anyway. I really can't contain my excitement - I am SO bored.

*Antidisestablishmentarianism**

I will probably never need to use the word or even see it again.

Hey wolfy, I posted that on here last week, is that where you saw it? LOL! I always remember this one from my schooldays, the longest (then) word in the English language!
FLOCCIPOCCINIHILIPILIFICATION

Pronounced: flox-ee-pox-ee-ni-hi-li-pi-li-fi-cay-shun.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records,
this is the longest word in the English language.
It means "the act of rendering as useless."

This word is one letter longer than antidisestablishmentarianism
Hahahh...I'm with mamya on this....it's a very 'retro' word...lol
Yah ttfn, that one came out after mine, betcha!
Susan - sorry to have rendered your long word useless :o)
boxy - I have used flocci.... in my business writing at work - but then I would!
Question Author
I found it in wikipedia when I was browsing.

ttfn - your word sounds Welsh.

I think that I will take the laptop upstairs and use it from under the duvet. I still have my Sunday Post to read too.

Isn't life so exciting.
Sorry, it's actually floccinaucinihilipilification. pronounced flocksy-norsy etc.
Yep, I know now, and actually ttfn's post did ring faint bells..... here was my post, I can't believe that we have actually posted Antidisestablishmentarianism twice in one week on AB!!! http://www.theanswerb...s/Question961638.html

(actually the next thread down from mine, when I searched for this, says that the longest word is now supercalifragilisticexpialidocious..... 34 letters!)

ttfn - what sort of business are you in? I can't imagine any that would use a big word like that.
Question Author
boxtops - I found the word and thought that I was geeky getting excited about it.

But you actually know the word - that IS sad.
How come bored, wolfy? You've posted before that you get bored..... I know what you mean, but I'm never bored, there is always so much else to do, and if all else fails, I go to sleep!
This all comes together as:

the floccipoccinihlipilification of Antidisestablishmentarianism saw the end of Welsh Weslayanism in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllanty
siliogogogoch
DTcrosswordfan Try saying that ^ 3 times fast after you've had a skinful :)

Yeah that's my ugly mug or "baby frightener" as some have said :)
Sorry Susan - have been shopping, cooking and eating. Valanne is absolutely right but the preference to get 'poxy' into the spoken word allows us to use the variant spelling ROFL. Would you be surprised if I said I had to swear the offical secrets act? It is true :o)
Gee ttfn, I live and learn.............;-)

You been out in the snow then?
if ttfn told you where she worked she would have to kill you
