Can't remember who wrote the poem!

This is one of my favourite poems and I cannot remember who wrote it. Have probably forgotten the words too and not done it justice! Can anyone help?

Yes of course you tried to come but you were kept, that's what I thought.

But something inside him struggled and cried, mortally

Like a bird the cat has caught.
