what does (sic) mean. I see it a lot in articles after a quotation from someone. it's usually in square brackets but I don't know how to do them on my laptop!
It means 'As written' (well, there is a proper name for it but can't remember what it is!) so if a spelling mistake has been made in say a letter to a newspaper the editor won't correct it and instead put [sic] after the mispelt word.
It is Latin for "thus". It is used when a mistake appears to show that this is exactly what the person quoted said or wrote, and is not an error on the part of the author.
I'm always forgetting how to do things on the computer! I lost the little arrow things as well the other day ^^^^^ and found them when it was too late lol
