Toffee not sticking to apples.
7 Answers
We were trying to make toffee apples. We got the toffee made okay but when trying to coat the apples the toffee just ran off and wouldn't stick. I read somewhere that you are supposed to put boiling water over the apples beforehand which I did and them patted them dry but obviously this didn't help. Why would it not stick?

This will remove the waxy coating and help the caramel to stick. Dry thoroughly and twist off any stalks. Push a wooden skewer or lolly stick into the stalk end of each apple.
this suggest you may have to do this a couple of times to get rid of wax

The other thing to try is to form a key by gently using a new sponge scourer

With the hot water (not boiling) will provide a base for the toffee to stick to.

Mccfluff, I took it that two batches meant doing 3 apples at a time due to the size if a bowl rather than doing all 6 apples twice. So next times I'll scrub them first, maybe I'll get one of those potato scrubbers. I also assumed the wax coating was natural and not added so I'll perhaps try organic apples. It woulf be a good test on my theory that organic movement is BS.
