"le troisième âge" seems a quite popular general description of Senior Citizens.
the slang is "les vieux" (the oldies)

Thanks Sam, I'd be pleased to know what the regularly used most informal phrase is?
Question Author
Ie - when looking for or asking for discounts.
What I said ^^^ is most often used for discounts.
Quel est votre meilleur prix pour les vieux? (Vielles if you are both/all female)
Retraité(e) is the normal word for pensioner.
lol well that cleared it up then
Depends whether you are writing or speaking.....I would certainly use the slang in the street but not in a formal letter.
Admission prices (etc) for 'senior citizens' are commonly advertised simply as 'seniors', as here:
http://www.jardindacclimatation.fr/information.php

It's 'senior' that I mutter when seeking a discount (or, more usually, gets said to me if I inadvertently try to pay the full price - I obviously look my age!)
en retraite - in retirement
I agree
not often used I also agree
i thought it was .... vieux singes capitulards fromage alimentaires.. ;0) (i'm kiddng obviously)
Homeric, slappy, positively Homeric :)
Shame on you Slapshot, You've fed , "Cheese eating surrender monkeys" into an online translator and come up with a load of garbage. Beware online translators.
Not a bad try slappy

give obiter a hard slap !

it has to be near - capitulards qui mangent le fromage
Only because I couldn't remember the french for munching Obiter..... I do of course reaslise how shameful using a translator is, i'll go and get Alba to chastise me
Espèces de singes-capitulards qui becqettent le fromage.
That should read becquettent
I am not sure singes-capitulards is allowed

French not keen on nouns in apposition if not positively banned
