Scanning/Photo Documents With Phone

I have tried to scan documents with all sorts of phones including iPhones and Samsung. It takes me an age to line the page up and I don't seem to be able to keep my hand steady when I take the photo. I can do it but it's not ideal.
I watch many dramas where somebody is sneaking about taking clandestine photos of documents knowing they could be caught out any second. They just seem to wave the phone over the document and take the picture.
Is it really that easy? Am I the problem?

Don't worry, you're not alone.
If I'm taking photos of documents etc, I find it easier to make sure to fit all of the document in and then if needed, I can crop the photo and alter the orientation :)
