What does this word really mean? I use it in what i think is context but at a pub quiz i was at they gave a different meaning to what i thought it meant... please help, its one of those that nags away at you 'cos no-one actually knows what it means...

Chambers Reference Online says it comes fae the 14th Century when it appeared as "al be it" meaning "although it be" and now means "although" or "as if"
