Where does the saying a load of bull

'Bull', meaning 'nonsense', started life as American slang about a century ago. Its earliest recorded use there is in a publication called Dialect Notes issued in 1914. Its sister-word, with 'sh1t' added on at the end, appeared around the same time. Adding 'a load of...' at the front was just an obvious way of getting the expression across.
