I think I've filled in the grid, got the cryptic representation of the title, but I can't seem to find the forename - is it in a straight line?

Take a look at the 4 letters next to the cryptic representation of the title.

I still have no idea how the full quotation justifes the selection of words though!

In answer to your question Ripper, yes both the title of the work(cryptic) and the forename are in the same straight line.

I should add that 9 of the letters represent the cryptic title and the 4 as you have found, the forename(in this case shortened)

The other problem I've got is with 10 down Mist (I assume mOst) abruptly rising in central spot between one strait and another STEE_ST
I can't seem to find an answer unless I've got 17 across (home) wrong

Hi Ripper. You need a y at the end of 17a. Ho= house My =motor yacht. Then think "eye" for centre to help you with 10 down.You are right about most rather than mist. Hope this helps.
