No, not completed yet, but I have found the quotations and this changes from hard grind to pleasure.

Glad to see that someone is making progress. I am at the stage of beating head against desk - never a pretty sight. Still hopeful for a successful outcome though.
Just got the quotations and had a quiet chuckle. Hoping the read will be smoother from here on.
.. or, perhaps, road.
Yes - it's nice when references in the preamble slowly start making sense as you go through the puzzle rather than leaving it all to the endgame and, as Ruthrobin says, getting the quotations certainly makes some of the tougher 'normal' clues easier to solve. All in all a very nice puzzle.
Quite a few tough but fair clues here. A grid packed full of thematic material, 90deg symmetry (so good grid construction), and no ambiguity at the end. The head scratching in the solving, without being carte blanche, is a winner for me.
I agree -- a very clever construction and a very pleasing puzzle. I hope I can add without giving too much away that I particularly liked the fact that in some cases the (to me, at least) obscure words or meanings were in the clue rather than the entry.
Hola from scenic San Antonio Texas; just here to bookmark the thread. I was able to work on this on the plane ride down (not recommended) but need some time (maybe tonight) to get to the dictionaries and check many questions. I think I have the 25 letters, more or less, but don't really expect to finish till back home on Monday night. Happy solving to all in the meantime.

Completed now with several lovely surprises along the way. What a model of setting from Tiburon!
Also completed, but took longer than it should. My ODQ gave me another author. Perhaps I should update to a later version.
A very well constructed puzzle, and just about the right level of difficulty for my taste. Even after resolving the quotations, still a lot of work to do. Final part came more quickly once I worked out how to reolve the ambiguities.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get Chambers electronic version on an android based smartphone? It has been available via itunes for iphone/ipad etc for some time. The Chambers site has a dud link to download for smartphones/e-readers, but even if this was working would it run on Android?

A Saturday finish for once. I got the quotations early on as I chanced on the final word quite quickly. I enjoyed this one, but I am kicking myself for struggling with how to enter one of the answers, particularly as I came across one of the authors regularly in my student days. I don't think this gives anything away!
Am I the only one looking for page XXX for the previous solution!
Great puzzle but I found this slow and tough going until getting the quotation, then all fell into place pretty quicky. Anyone get a Friday finish on this? Hats off to you if you did.
...thought 8d was a great clue
Might do Andrew ... still 5 days to go!
clueless joe, I look forward to de-capping in a few days time
All done, too - beautifully neat construction (symmetry of thematic stuff, elegance and ingenuity of most of the clues) - class act, really. Thanks, Tiburon. (I got held up considerably by 3D, thinking it had a misprint in it and should be treated as TIP + PER making "HEAD" as grid entry. Right answer of course works better - even if I am not 100% convinced about it as a clue).
The range of possible misprints is so huge that I decided to throw in the towel.
I was so slow starting on this one that I didn't think I'd get there at all, but finally did after realising I'd got the wrong author. Very enjoyable.
