Omar Sharif? I thought that was Omar Khayyam
You're welcome - I started looking at quotes from Lawrence Of Arabia before I twigged to which Omar it was referring.
it's a anagram of "Sharif notwithstanding men grieving over me vow" (haven't checked it thoroughly)

Oddly I did find attributed to omar sharif!, but's clearly Khayyam and that anagram works.
