Rapidly closing in on this having now got over two thirds of the grid filled, but not yet the thematic creation. I particularly liked 23D, but perhaps that's just me. A fun debut (I think). Many thanks Nudd.

well i've googled it trux and yes it exists [never heard of it!] - maybe the setter has some experience of the 'traditional knowledge' of its inhabitants - or is ethnicity enough? my bet is they're all bashing away on computers as well.
by the way, my proposed academy was in glasgow.
Just finished - thoroughly enjoyed it.

Why the fuss about 32d? Perfectly sound clue with a smooth surface. Are we doing the same puzzle? Sorry to sound tetchy but.....
Pretty easy and good fun - just what I needed with a slightly fuzzy head. I thought 13A was pretty poor, until i realised how it really worked about two hours later
bobbycollins must have an excellent grasp on geography.
"What can I say? Very enjoyable. I'll leave it at that. " How could you resist, p-p! 32d works for me without abbreviation, but I felt multiple words could have been indicated in another clue. Some straightforward clues to get you started, and some really fun ones, too. Thanks, Nudd.
A relatively gentle workout - enjoyable and satisfying. Some excellent clues with some very good surface reading, I thought - thanks, Nudd.
Great debut by Nudd. I enjoy setters who present me with new words/meanings and here I had a couple of additions to my Bradford's. I hadn't come across this theme before and it made a refreshing change from some long plods we've had this year.
Very enjoyable and look forward to the next one - thank you Nudd.
Day out yesterday, but one of the very few times when I have managed to complete without access to BRB or other references. Made easier by the fact that not necessary to fully resolve the double clues in all cases.

Enjoyable puzzle, and for once a literary theme already within my scope of knowledge.
Tilbee - Well done for getting 14dn and 32dn without reference. They were both new to me.
New to me too Clamzy - but only one feasible solution based on the wordplay,
Almost filled the grid but mystified by 4A. Is the answer 2 words? I have 16 normal clues which means I must be missing 2 misprints somewhere but all 16 seem OK as they are to me.
contendo, my grid entry for 4a was 2 words.
This felt quite easy ... especially after last week's tortuous delights.

Did anyone else feel a little aggrieved by the ambiguity possible in 8D? It threw me for quite a while.
Alekhine, I was just whining over on the EV thread (which also uses double clues this week) about how, in that puzzle, the double clues are not that well written, so that the breaks are glaringly obvious. So, I would have to say I appreciated how clever 8d was.
Alekhine - Add me to the list. I didn't fully understand wordplay to 8 dn until long after I'd finished the puzzle as there could only be one possible answer. Having pondered long and hard I agree with dr b it was a brilliant clue.
Fun crossword, all finished apart from the first letter of 28dn, which should come eventually. Like others, I was merrily entering answers long before I got the hint on how to do them. I was in the Lakes last week so couldn't post a comment, but I did think the puzzle was lots of fun. At first I assumed the travellers were heading for the Royal Wedding, and was not sure whether 10 straight lines was going to be enough to represent four outfits, but all worked out fine. However, I did feel that with many jumbled answers, lots of highlighting plus the ten lines, it could be very easy to make an error producing a neat copy to send off. (I'm good at that)
clamzy, isn't your comment re 8dn just a tad misleading?
A most enjoyable puzzle - thanks very much Nudd.

I didn't get the phrase until the very end as I was looking for a different first word which 'seemed' to be there as 9a and 13a were two of my final clues to solve.

....or has something been given away here?
