No I quite enjoyed it. My comment was aimed at the crossword's title 'A Great Solver'
which I thought was a bit weak.
Maybe I got out of bed on the wrong side today.

thanks mintyman - i liked the clueing and the way it all tied together but also wondered about the title. is it just a little in-joke regarding internet searching [i'd not heard of this before] or am i missing something thematic?

I assumed the title referred to the fact that one of the missing answers was a person who could solve any problem that his erstwhile friend created

yes djawhufc, i thought there might be a quote to that effect that included the title [or an anagram maybe] but came up with nothing - maybe i'm trying too hard and should just take it at face value. the website i have in mind is probably too obscure anyway, i hadn't come across it before.
