Thanks to both of you. I still don't see the reaoning behind colour, though!
A col is a mountain pass - a regiment's standard is called its colour. Not sure where the Guardian fits in.
A COL is a pass. I assume the OUR refers to teh Guardian itself. COLOUR is a standard (flag)

Colour (standard as flag, ensign) - 'col' (pass through mountains) + 'our' (the Guardian's)

Maybe it jst refers to OUR as in 'we are The Guardian' though it seems rather tenuous!
