Satellite imaging question

Hi all

Satellite imaging experts step forward

Can anyone explain why the large freshwater lakes on the following link show as black. In particular are the 2 lakes East of the Gulf of Finland and also Lake Victoria in Africa.

Water appears almost black (almost black) because at this angle it scatters little light back to the Landsat sensor. ...............

Thanks for the reply. Why does this seem only to apply to freshwater lakes? Why not the sea at similar latitude?

if you zoom in all the smaller lakes are black looking at them its seems to work on depth,hence why the sea is blue ie deeper.
