Have been to doctor this morning. Apparently my throat looks healthy, but he can't see further down where I feel there is something stuck. I have a horrible taste in my mouth and back of throat, it makes me feel sick - in fact I have been sick several times as it's as though something nasty is trickling down my throat into my stomach. Doctor has advised Gaviscon although I don't have symptoms of inigestion/heartburn and I have to go back for a blood test. He seemed to have no idea what was wrong and the test is a general blood count and to check iron levels.
any one here had anything similar?

Could it be catarrh That has the same effect on me with mucus at the back of my throat
How long has the state of affair existed...days? weeks? months?

Any alteration in voice?
Any earache?
How old are you?
Question Author
He never mentioned catarrh - I'll look up the symptoms and see if there's any remedies I can try. He was a very young doctor, made me feel ancient. He admitted he had no idea what was wrong and went to discuss it with another doctor. Not very reassuring!

Hi Sqad, I'm 55, no earache, no alteration in voice, no loss of appetite, apart from when I'm feeling sick.
Been like this about two weeks now. Waited to see if it would go away but the taste in my mouth and throat is disgusting.
Been sucking a lot of mints!
One last question....any difficulty in swallowing? I food sticking?
two suggestions one is oral thrush, you can get it around your tonsils, although the doc should have noticed it...the second is that a foul taste in the mouth and being sick were the first two symptoms a colleague of mine had that turned out to be kidney failure. THIS IS NOT SAID TO TERRIFY YOU but I just felt it worth mentioning, you might want to check if the doc has put kidney function in the blood tests.
I had a very bad case of sinusitis once and I had exactly the same with the taste and the sickness, however I had a banging head and face as well.
woofgang...Christ that is a RANK outsider...kidney failure. She has felt oK and appetite has been good, not he sort of story for kidney failure.
Blimey......!!

no problems in swallowing.
Don't smoke, don't drink heavily, feel well apart from the awful taste and feeling of something stuck in throat.
Woofgang, that is a bit scary, hopefully blood tests will rule that out.
Shoemad...Fine....so we are not dealing with anything life threatening and it is possibly post nasal drip from your sinuses.
One should also rule out gastro-oesophageal reflux syndome....leakage of acid into the mouth.

Don't worry it IS NOT kidney failure.
could it be possible for you to have something stuck in your throat - like a small fish bone?
Question Author
Sqad, thank you for your advice, and the reassurance, much appreciated.
Painterman, can't think of anything I've eaten that could be stuck.
Hopefully it will clear up. Have to go back to doctor next week when blood test results are in and will mention the post nasal drip and the reflux thing.
thanks
I know sqad and wouldn't have mentioned it except the person I know was very very ill before being properly diagnosed and had no other symptoms whatsoever.
Woofgang....no big deal.....I wish that I had a £1 for every time that I had pressed the submit button and then cringed with embarrassment at the answer that i had given..............I would be a wealthy bloke.
sqad could it be sinus infection, as that often makes your throat feel as though something stuck, and had it so many times, also the bad taste that doesn't go
have you eaten any tiny seeds or cracked black pepper or something....my sister got a chunk of pepper stuck in a fold around her tonsils that gave these symptoms...in the end it formed a big white lump...then fell off...
em...it COULD be, but an X-ray if sinuses would exclude that.
I just have a sneaking suspicion that it could be gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD...GERD if you are an American)
sqad that's my biggest problem, and had endless medications that haven't worked, and wake every day, cough, splutter, i have never smoked, nose feels blocked and sometime swollen, its the acid that seeps up, that was what i was told by hospital doctor, i even suggested to the GP a hernia? i am frustrated at never getting to grips with it after over 25 years, I wish i could find some Homeopathic remedy that would help, anything in fact.
So sympathise with shoemad completely.
I know what it is as I also have suffered with this 'lump in throat' sensation, you mention you have been sick several times, the 'lump' is where your oesophagus has been damaged slightly by the acid in your vomit...it will heal quickly but i know it feels awful and you keep swallowing to ease it...
Truly I wouldn't have mentioned it sqad except for my friend.....it was a huge shock.
