Is the NOTW replacement doomed?
12 Answers
Do ABers think that the big companies who pulled their advertising from the NOTW will give The Sun on Sunday, or whatever its replacement is called, their business back? Or do you think that the new paper also will be contaminated from the start by its association with Murdoch?

The NotW was the market leader, so there is a demand for that kind of newspaper. The Sun on Sunday sounds like the ideal replacement, especially as they will work from the NotW's offices, with the same journalists and not much will chande except for the banner at the top of page 1.

depends how cynical they think it all is. In particular, how the advertisers feel about it. As most of them advertise in other Murdoch papaers (eg the Sun), they'll probably be content that the one offending newspaper has gone.
On the other hand, if any such scandal turns out to involve the Sun as well, all bets are off...

The symbiotic relationship of a newspaper and its' advertisers is complicated.
The advertisers will want to spend their money on a publication which receives the widest possible readership.
If the new newspaper can establish itself as a major force in the Press industry, it will likely see a commensurate increase in advertisers wishing to use its services........but it may suffer from the NI association if sufficient readers AND advertisers decide, on principle, to avoid it.

Ther is also the question of the demographics of the users/watchers/readers of the particular media outlet you might wish to advertise with. Estimated readership of the NotW was around 8m or so, but more importantly for many advertisers, around 50% of the readership were from the ABC1 demographic, which is very high for a tabloid.
I very much doubt they would desert the various NI/ NC outlets though, and its likely that many of the same advertisers will come back to any replacement Sunday.

It's about time the public realised that these sort of newspapers are just what they are. Rags. Gutter press, who scandal monger and will go to any lengths to cause untold heartache as has just been proved ,to people in the public eye and those who have been forced into the public eye (Eg Poor Milly Dowler and her family) just to sell papers and put money into the pockets of unscrupulous people like Murdoch and his ilk .
If these advertisers then start supporting any new publication after pulling out over the NOTW debacle then they are just being hypocritical .
It's dog eats dog and it's downright disgusting .
.
I think Murdoch should be arrested, and his cronies and that harpy of his , His assets should be seized and then let the horrible old man sweat for his blasted corrupt empire .
Rant over :)
