Thanks for your help Cupid04 and Oldred. Think I will probably stick with the Daily Mail Crossword for now which I am just about getting used to. Unless anybody can recommend other sources of good crosswords for getting used to cryptics?

Many thanks.
ozzy I'd encourage you to try the telegraph again - it was quite a tricky one yesterday. I moved from the Mail to the DT and much prefer it, i did the express before that.
the thing with cryptics is that although there are some 'standard' clues and meanings each paper / setter is quite different. Stick with them you will get used to them :-)

Thanks for that Chelle - I will try it again. It's quite satisfying when you get to the end and I've learnt a lot of vocabulary to boot! To speak of which I am nearly at the end - one last one if anyone can help.

2d Country's half cut on old wine (5) P?(D?)?O

(I have aired for 8a which may not be right).

Thanks for any help.
it's Porto - half of portugal and o from old
across is airer

Thanks Chelle. That's it - first one finished! And I very nearly put it in the bin this morning!
Glad to be of help :-) Don't give up!
7D is carte blanche (anagram of chance bra let).

Still working on others - I think your 3d might be wrong though - the answer is credo which would give an O not a D in 11A.
