25d Whale? No trace after odd bits vanish (3) I have O?C so I am assuming that it is ORC as in Orca but I can't understand it in relation to the clue. Can anyone enlighten me please?

25D remover the odd-numbered letters from 'no trace'

Thank you all - I can see it now!

I don't suppose anyone can explain 'Star Chamber' for 19a Tudor court, formal and yellowish? I must be in 'thick' mode today, I just can't see it.

Thanks.
starch could be formal (though I'd expect starchy)
amber= yellowish
starch amber-> starchamber

Thank you for explaining Factor30 - I can see it now - it's taking me a while to get used to the logic (or lack of it!) of these crosswords!
your not on your own ozzie1 ...factor 30 would have been a code breaker at 'Bletchley Park' in the war years! lol
