I am sure we have all made a mistake when completing a crossword; matbe a careless misspelling (see what I mean) or an error in copying a draft to the final fair copy. Is it worth attempting to correct any such mistake? Obviously, an illegible or ambiguous submission would be disqualified but what if the mistake is corrected with tippex or similar and the right solution printed on top. What is the policy of adjudicators and markers in such a case and is it still worth submitting the corrected copy?

I've sent in tippexed grids and won with them! So yes go for it!
Well, I have won after sending in a corrected crossword. That was the Telegraph and the Generalist (usually manage to muck one up every time) but I can't say whether the others have the same policy.
Actually I won a crossword where I did have to tippex out and change letters
I asked Phil McNeill, the Telegraph's Puzzles Editor and he gave this reply:

Can Tippex, or similar correction fluid, be used?
Yes.
