I always thought it was Deo Volente. Can it be Volente Deo, as well?

Churchill would have considered it the latter...
Definitely a reward. I was hopeless at drawing. In the days when teachers could write short pithy comments on reports my Art teacher (also cartoonist for the local paper) wrote:

"He is rather unlucky with paint!"
