film making in glasgow

was up in georges sqare tonight,all the street names have been changed to 16th avenue etc,loads of american cop cars,hot dog stands etc,it is all cordoned off and security men there,the filming starts tomorrow,a car chase and smash,also brad pitt and angelina jolly arrived today,its a film about zombies,they should be filming for about a fortnight.

Film is called World War Z, and was also filming in Valetta last month, where they used 900 inhabitants as extras/ set guards, and traffic points. Enjoy the buzz!

I was in Cornwall last week, they're supposed to be living there whilst the filming takes place. Didn't spot them though. *sigh*

Why are they using Glasgow as a backdrop and changing everything to look like America? Why not just film it in America?

They have been filming in Cornwall recently and my brother in law was accepted as one of the extra cast members for something being filmed on a boat. Not interested in the film but looking forward to seeing it to see if I spot him.

Ooh hope you get to see some stuff! They firm quite a bit round here but the bigger stuff is often hidden away. We've had Robert Downey Junior for Sherlock Homes, Jude Law for Alfie, Samuel L Jackson for Captain America and Johnny Depp but not sure what that was for though! The Captain America stuff wasn't easy to see though, you could see bits of the set and a little filming but they had big barriers up and security who were trying to tell people it wasn't that they were filming.

See a lot of Corrie people about but not really filming. Cutting It was always quite visible though and some of the business signs were kept up for quite a while after it finished. Waterloo Road is around occasionally.

Kate, mr mac and I have a hotel booked in Glasgow for Saturday night. We booked ages ago and were going to book the Millennium at George Square but changed our minds at the last minute. Then I found out about the filming last week. D'oh!

Seems the location manager was asked to find UK/European city built on a grid system - to be changed into a quasi-american one - as Philidelphia was to expensive, Glasgow has the requisite grid traffic system, hence filming in Glasgow.

They could have saved on the make-up and the set dressing and just filmed a post-apocalyptic zombie war movie in Wolverhampton.
