Good Day... I'm blowed if I can work out precisely why 17 ac "Precious judge goes about with bow in a state" has to be "sweetie pie". Can anyone explain it to me please?

see (judge) around w(with) bow = tie but not sure about "state" or "pie" bit? Perhaps someone else can help

Roslyn... thanks for that - you've cracked it. Chambers lists a definition of "pie" as "a mixed state, confusion".
