24D German beer drunk by flier (5) - I have L?E?E - If this is Liege, I'm sure they brew beer there, but it's in Belgium and I don't see the rest.

4D The bird I'm exchanging at church for rodents (7) - It seems to me that the compiler has got into a bit of a muddle - I have the bird, and the rodents (made up of I'M plus church), but there is no indication in the clue of the meaning of the whole word (birdS in the plural). Surely TITMICE has to be right, the singular of course being Titmouse. I have a crazy image of mice with beaks and feathers!

24d grebe
Grebe G and beer

Titmice
I'm and tit and ce church
4d titmice
4d - Tit = bird, Im (exchanged/reversed) church = CE = TIT MI CE sounds right to me.
I think the setter must have thought titmice were rodents! I read it as...
tit= bird
mi= Im
ce= church/CE.
I'm still puzzling over the other clue.

Thanks to all of you - now realise I'd put tonsurial instead of tonsuring for 23A. Still think the clue for 4D wasn't well worded!
