Why oh WHY can they not display the price in whole pence. They surely cant think we are enticed by £1.29.9 a litre, rather than £1.30, they are kidding no one. It makes me bloody minded, I want to go in each and every one with a can, buy 2 litres and ask for my 0.2p change.
Many now claim that was an urban myth, oldbillbuck.
It's more to do with people focusing just on the whole numbers and therefore teh item appears a little cheaper
It is clearly to try to make you think it is 1p per litre cheaper than it really is.
The biggest annoyance with fuel buying though is how the flow remains steady but they seem to think it is alright to occassinally not rasie the price by 1p but by 2p in one go. That means the last bit was twice the price of the previous bit.
I had a similar gripe on here a few weeks ago. 0.9p is not valid currency (IMO)
If it's displayed at 1.29.9 just make it 1.30
It's dear enough anyway :)
You may well get your way in a few years- once the price passes £9.99 a litre there won't be room on the signs to put a price of 1000.9 so they may just put it to the nearerst penny
psychologically people think a product is cheaper when its priced at £19.99
its the 19 that people see as its price.. £20.00 looks more obviously it is but by 1p
