Looking for another Utonagan to add to our pack
18 Answers
We have one five year old male Utonagan(neutered) and a fifteen year old Collie (female). We're thinking the Collie is getting to near the end of her shelf life, :( being mostly deaf, mostly blind, incontinent and has dementia. The thing is, our boy is so attached to her, we know he will beside himself with woe when she goes to Rainbow Bridge. So we decided we need to get another female to keep him company. We fell in love with the Utonagan breed as soon as we got the boy, and now we are looking for another one, a female this time. I see on the British Utonagan Society website there have been some issues with the direction they want the breed to go in, and therefore there are no registered breeders breeding now! We just want a very young healthy female Utonagan, low hip scores, eye test clear, vaccinated and vet checked. But the thing is, it needs to be within striking distance of Bucks, I see there are some up in Scotland, but it's just way too far to drive up there! I have emailed a woman from the British Utonagan Society, but have received no reply. Several Utonagan breeder websites are showing no puppies available, and some links don't even work . I know of one woman (called Nadia) who is known to the police and RSPCA who breeds the Utonagans and has been arrested and had loads of dogs removed from her premises for being in a disgusting state, she still has her website up, so don't anyone be fooled into saying there is one near me! But anyway, sorry for rambling, just really need some help, maybe someone you or someone you know is having Ute puppies? Thanks for your help!

I saw a contract from one breeder and it was unbelievable - would take no responsibility for how the dog turned out and would not guarantee any health issues. As the poster says, there is a lot of infighting between those who run the 'breed' society because they all think their dogs are the right ones. Problem is what are you going to get if you mate them? You don't know which of the parents the pups are going to take after. A very specialised sort of dog that I hope the public don't get fooled into buying as a 'rare' designer breed. Hope you find one that suits you.
Hi wolf63, yes a Utonagan is a real breed, although "technically", it's a combination of different breeds mixed to make a new one. Obviously, just like every other dog breed on earth certain traits have been tweaked to suit a purpose.
owdhamer- he is a VERY bonny dog! The best dog I've ever seen or had.

lankeela, the breed is, in fact, a German Shepherd/Husky/Malamute cross, and our breeder provided us with all the relevant papers showing our Utonagan had been health checked to the best of their ability, hip scores, eye checks etc. We have no intention to mate them, as our boy has been neutered. We aren't really fussed about the "rare designer breed", as you say, we just like the look of the dogs. And, obviously, not not being purebred, they have much less chance of having the inherent health issues that the original breeds have.
I understand that you know exactly what you want your next dog to be - and good luck in your search.
But PLEASE consider a rescue dog. There are so many who need homes and make fantastic pets. Many could have the very traits that you are after in your utonagan.
Just a Hapy New Year suggestion!!

Sorry can't agree about them having less chance of having health problems for example all three breeds in their make up can have hip and eye problems, so can easily pass them on to the puppies. Its a fallacy that crossbreeds are healthier than purebreds, if the parents carry the gene then it can be passed on.
