9,10,12a Strictly for the birds (rubbish) - "Strictly (Come Dancing)" (prog) + 'for the birds' (talent-spotting) - don't shoot the messenger, please..
I assume "Strictly come dancing" talent spotting and the expression means rubbish. (US)

I'm not shooting you Lie-in, but somebody needs it ! Thanks to both.
I remember when spotting the talent was looking for girls ( birds). Very political incorrect nowadays I should think.
Hi geo - that's the way I read it. Don't forget, this setter can get away with just about anything & no-one dare complain...
I must say I preferred "chasing" to Spotting". Happy days.
