i'd guess that the word 'faith' is missing from the clue because
'off the air' is an anagram, i.e. conversion, of 'for e faith', with e begin short for eastern

I agree that the clue should say '...faith conversion'.
I think the error lies in the RTE rather than in the AB post since the identical wording was posted a few days ago by another poster
