The Grand Prize is a holiday for two in Cyprus and there are 50 runner-up prizes of £75 holiday vouchers to be won too! The £75 discount is for a minimum of two adults on a 3 night city break chosen from any Thomas Cook brochure.

Surely this cannot be legal. I thought a prize should be free and not dependent on spending money to redeem it. These 'prizes' could actually cost upwards of £250 to collect.

That's not unusual. There is a prize, it's a first prize, the runners-up are sweeteners. Loads of times the prize is the holiday, but you have to pay for the plane tickets to get there. I don't see anything illegal in that.

I am lazy and usually just enter the competitions that are listed on Loquax - they are usually legit competitions (apart from the one to win a tea towel where you have to pay for the postage).

The one that you have mentioned looks dodgy - but there are tons out there that are not worth the entering.

Try money saving expert - they have a forum dedicated to competitions and there might be legal advise there.

The problem is that the small print is just that - tiny print and tons of it. I must admit to just glancing over it.

I haven't won anything for ages - it was some sort of yoga mat!

Good points boxtops. However,my comment relates to the term 'runner-up prizes. Surely they are giveaways not prizes. Technical I know, but a bit of a 'cheater' I reckon.

I would say that is more a 'naff' runner-up prize than anything else. It is clearly quoted - and not hidden away.
