Almost there - I have the character and only 17d and the intersecting unclued entry to find.
Is the A of 23 in 17d? I thought CREEDS for 17d but can't fit that in.

Unfortunately, since the shaded entries are unclued I can only get them by guesswork. I think 1 down is WELSH. Other possible unclued entries are COLOUR and MEMBER, but the lack of clues reduces this to guesswork.

Hi pcoles. I also have WELSH, COLOUR and MEMBER. For a potential two word one I have FOR EACH or it could be TO REACH!! Maybe another two word one could be NAVY LIST or possibly this is NOVELIST and the other 2 word one is elsewhere. The rest is still to be worked upon. I seem to have most answers and misprints apart from 23A and 33A. I have GURU for 14A but am wondering if this is wrong now. Any tips would be gratefully received.
Hi Indy-Trier, this is quite tricky, but you are not far off. FOR EACH and NOVELIST are the right choices. You are on the wrong track with Guru. Look up the last letter in Chambers. For 23a, look up 8 letter dances in Bradford's, if you have it. Your final answer will be 3 letters, and the misprint is in the first word. For 33a, rhino means money, so again Bradford's will probably help. There isn't a misprint in that one.
Thanks turnerjmw. Note to self - must buy a Bradfords! However I'm sure I have now found the "character" and treated it accordingly, but I'm still puzzled by the part that says there are 2 two-word shaded entries, as I have only found one, whilst convincing myself that the ones I have filled in definitely lead to my character. That is unless the barred shaded area on the extreme left actually counts as one 2 word entry. I'm probably going wrong somewhere again!
Hi Indy-Trier, I think you're all right. As far as the "two word" thing goes, I have the same problem. The preamble says that the components can be deduced from three pairs of unclued entries (two of two words). I think it's poorly worded, but have taken the "two of two words" to refer to the that to mean two of the descriptors of the components have two words, rather than that two of the unclued entries have two words, as I agree only one does.
So 1d + lowest of the three unclued across entries is a descriptor of the first component, and the right hand unclued down entry is a descriptor of the second component. My full breakdown was here:

I hope that makes some kind of sense!
