star wars light saber things?

just re watching star wars episode one and two in great anticipation of episode three and just wondered what the different coloured light things mean?

Blue and Green Lightsabers are usually used by the Jedi (Good Guys) while the Red lightsabres are used by the Sith (bad guys) however Mace Windu (Samual L Jacksons Character) has a Purple Lightsabre which goes against George Lucas's philosophy of the Good/Bad colours, this was because Samual L Jackson wanted his lightsabre to be different to anyone elses and took a lot of negotiating over it. Another small fact is that the handle of his lightsabre has a quote on it that is a quote from his character in pulp fiction - something about being a bad mother - - - - - , u get the rest!

In terms of the story, the colour of the Light Saber (yes, this is the American spelling) is down to the focusing crystal within. Not sure about the red ones, but the green and blue are "Crystal" lightsabers and the purple of Mace Windu (Samuel L Jackson) is "Electrum". Load of rubbish, obviously, but that's sci-fi for you.

Until recently a friend of mine was convinced they were called "Light Savers" ,which made perfect sense to him because they were so bright you didn't need to switch on a light!
