Maybe this should be in crosswords but here goes.

I just had a thought that someone like Araucaria might be lurking on here in disguise. He/they might be chuckling away at those of us who find his/their croswords challenging.

Who might be a crossword compiler in disguise?

Lie-in-King?
Not me. It's hard enough solving them without compiling them.

He's a compiler in the Guardian and I think he does the Private Eye crossword compilation as well. He's an elderly gentleman with a fantastic brain.
Pain in the arris too, makes his own rules up lol
Question Author
I would have just put Monkey Puzzle, woofgang. You know who he is.
Question Author
Mamy, he might be reading this.
Hi sibton! Not me, I'm afraid :-)

I've previously mentioned my dislike of Araucaria's puzzles.
The one in Private Eye is a beast, I don't often look at it
Question Author
Yes but that could be double bluff, Lie-in King.
Question Author
Howard, where were your crosswords published?
in a local magazine
Tilly, I don't mind if he is reading this, whilst I respect my elders and betters (and that includes anyone who can compile a crossword) I find the almost religious adoration for him rather disturbing on the whole.
Ha ha Woofgang - so did I.
Well said, mamya
Question Author
I don't 'adore' him. I just enjoy his crosswords and look forward to them, especially the Christmas and Easter ones.
I was speaking generally Tilly, not pointing that at any one individual.
