Scrolling lag...

Good afternoon! I've just noticed that when opening a page with a YouTube link on it, such as -

I have to reload the page first as it "hangs", then I get a "lag" when scrolling down/up, screen examples here (I used Snipping Tool) -

The screen resolves if I scroll slowly in the opposite direction, but I've never seen this before.

I'm using Firefox 13.0.1 & it seems to happen on AB pages only. It looks ok with Chrome, but FF is my preferred browser for AB.

I've cleared the cache (that seems to be a cure-all) & disabled all extensions to no avail. If anyone has any ideas for sorting this out, I'd be very grateful. It's not urgent but it is annoying.

This is because we use iframes to display youtube videos, iframes are quite slow-loading - especially if there's twenty on a page!

They are very easy to implement however!

Hi L-i-K...I don't get any problems with the AB links which you have given. However,I am unable to get a 'peep' out of the photobucket ones; whether I use FF, IE or Google.

Ron, can you not see the 'lag'?? I can particularly on the first photobucket link.

The pb links will just not work for me; on FF, IE or Chrome: even if I reload the pages and allow for delays.

Just an idea, LIK, you might want to check you've got the correct graphics drivers installed on your computer.

Ron - the photobucket links are open to all, you should be able to see them - they're just static screenshots...

Chuck - the Nvidia control panel says I'm up-to-date with the drivers...

I admit to now being completely mystified in this matter.

Ok...Photobucket shots are static and I get them. However, whilst I am also using Nvidia and my default browser is FF 13.0.1, there is Not any problem, so far as I am concerned, with the You Tube links which are presented in AB.

The next time you find the problem occurring, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to enter the Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab and look down the CPU column. The only high figure should be against System Idle Process but I'd be prepared to bet that either firefox.exe or plugin-container.exe is shown as taking up most of your processing power.

If it's Firefox itself which is causing the problem, try using the Adblok Plus extension (if you've not already got it).

If it's Plugin-container, try (as a temporary measure) closing it via the 'End Process' button, to see if the scrolling problem disappears.

Plugin-container is part of Firefox. It's purpose is to stop the whole of Firefox crashing if a linked component (such as Adobe Flash Player) crashes. Most of the time it does nothing (except, for some people, to hog all of their computer's resources). It can be disabled as follows:
Type about:config into the address bar and hit 'Return'
Promise to be good (You'll see what I mean!)
Type ipc in the search box
Double-click on dom.ipc.plugins.enabled to change the setting to false.

Hi Chris! I'm still up, so - thank you!

As I look at Task Manager/Processes, you're correct about System Idle Process (90-97) - firefox.exe*32 is jumping from 00-04 (no higher) & plugin-container is static at 00.

A couple of the other processes (I'm showing "from all users") are moving from 00-01/02/03.

I do have AdBlock (sorry Ed...) & have tried with it enabled/disabled.

I've downgraded Flash Player to version 10.3 from 11.3 & everything seems ok now - fingers crossed...

I'll wait until 11.4 comes out, but I'm hanging on to the installer for 10.3

You seem to have solved it. No wonder I have no problems because I am still operating with 'Flash Player 10.3 and will leave it that way for the time being.
