Can anybody help me with an answer to these last two questions in a quiz. I managed to get the other 48 myself - something that amazed me.

If a bellringer takes 3 seconds to ring four o'clock, how long will it take him to ring midday

*****Car Capers (Cryptic clues to car parts)

example - Sounds like you'll do this after working hard... (I have tyre for this)

and wear yourself out any idea of an answer for this?

Exhaust?

Thanks - I was mentally circling a car to try and work that out.
Could the bell ringer one be something to do with old-fashioned telephones and how long it takes the dial to go round?
If it takes 3 seconds to pull the rope 4 times then to pull it 12 time would take 9 seconds(assuming that this is not a trick question)
Bellringer - just 11 seconds.

The bellringer question confuses me. I tried Googling for the answer and found a couple of sites where people have discussed at length the calculation required to work out the answer. The answer that seemed to occur most often was 11 seconds.

My brain is too tired to even think about it but will try it again later if none of our resident geniuses can agree on an answer. :-)

sir.prize - you weren't there when I started typing but I see that you think that the answer is 11 seconds too.

Any other answers?
I agree with 11 seconds - the first pull starts the clock and then it's every second until the twelfth pull.
Each ring takes 1 second AFTER the first one, therefore 12 rings = 11 seconds.
This is a standard puzzle: since there are 3 gaps between 4 rings and that takes 3 seconds, then each gap is 1 second. Thus for 12 rings there are 11 gaps which takes 11 seconds.
That makes sense. I stand corrected
For four rings there are only 3 time intervals between them. If that take 3 seconds then each interval is one second long. For twelve rings there are 11 time intervals so it takes eleven seconds.
Bibblebub beat me to it!
Is a bell ringer someone who looks like a bell ? Not possible to ring 4 times in three seconds so its a trick question I would imagine.
others beat me to it, Calibax, but having typed it in whilst those appeared in Latest Posts I decided not to let the effort go to waste

Thanks to all of you. My initial answer was 12 seconds but that was much too simple and I decided that it was wrong (which it was) but then my brain seized up.

Should I win the euromillions draw jackpot tonight I will send each of you a small reward. :-)
i've taken a screenprint for evidence so you can't back out of that now
Gawd, I thought your bellringer was your finger !
Why call it midday and not noon .Summits going on there .
9 seconds. 3 seconds to ring 4 strokes. for 12 multiply by 3
