Haul is correct. HAL is an acronym for Heuristically programmed Algorithmic (computer) - around 'U' -'for all to see'.

HAL 9000 is the computer (and possibly main character) in 2001: A Space Odyssey. I read once that Arthur C Clarke and/or Stanley Kubrick just subtracted one letter from IBM to get the acronym and then made up the words it stood for.
