I have only a couple of clues left to solve, then I can struggle with the theme.Any help gratefully received. NB. There may be an extra word in clues.

I have a completed grid in front of me, but am flailing around for the theme (I have half an idea re the person responsible and also how to make the reference more colourful, but I could be totally wrong.) Does anyone have any tips?

This is not so much a tip, more another question. I have 6 clues which have an extra word, but for the sake of symmetry, I'd like to have a seventh. How many do you have? The extra words in the first few affected clues give a very broad hint about the name of the person involved.( in fact they give his two first two given names)

My extra words are in 21a, 25a, 6d, 7d, 21d and 35d.

My extras are 21 A,25 A, 7D, 35 D. My other two, which I was unsure of, are 24 D and 27 D.

No, I've decided your 6D is far better than my 27 D. I'm having a rest from this one and concentrating on the Sunday crosswords.

Not an answer as such, but a grumble. I concur with the 6 clues listed, but several others still have an extra - ie redundant - word. "famous" in 19A for example, also "got" in 29A, "suitable" in 5D, "wrapped" in 8D. In a puzzle where extra words are part of the gimmick surely all extraneous words should be strictly eliminated in the editing process? Otherwise great fun so far, but not yet found the famous work. Two or three which suggest themselves don't seem to be right.

So are the first 2 words given names meaning it's not the poet?

No luck finding a saying hinted at using the 4 words from 6 8 24 26

It's NOT the poet - those are the first two words of the person's name. Post again if you'd like another tip!

PS You need only the two last words to get the saying.

Will have a think after dinner - it'll be ready in a couple of minutes! In the meantime, remember the last two words (towards the phrase) are from 24 and 35. Those are what helped me.

Googling the first four words should bring enlightenment - I can't think of any decent hints, clues.
