Father being taken to surgery from nursing home.
My father was sectioned under the mental health act and has to have treatment at a surgery 8 miles from the home every 6 weeks.
The NHS will no longer provide transport to that surgery and I have been advised he has got to go in a black cab type taxi so he can not get to the driver.
He is on full NHS funding.
When hospital transport was provided the last time I went with him at the request of the hospital and there was the driver and presumably a carer in the ambulance.
When I received the paperwork from the hospital it stated if I took him out of the secure home there must be at least 2 people with him and when I queried this with the hospital they said the carer in the ambulance counted as the second person even though there were about half a dozen other people in the ambulance.
I have now been advised I will have to pay for the taxi and for a carer to go from the home at a rate of £11.65 per hour.
Can anybody advise me if this is lawful as I was advised it would be unlawful to take my father out of the home on my own.

I don't know for certain, ojread2 (sorry, sounds a bit formal), but I think posts remain when posters are suspended. For example there are numerous user-names that have posted under Law that are marked 'suspended' but their posts remain whereas others have presumably been banned as their threads seem to have vanished. I can see that there may be some merit in keeping the posts but it's the Ed's decision I assume (unless mods can Ban users too).
Anyway I don't know whether this particular thread has run its course and whether Brimoan will return in the circumstances but I would actually quite like to know the answer to the query raised in the OP

i couldn't possibly comment, but the issue may be of interest to some. there was a genuine thread a while ago on something similar but that was just about transport costs for patients rather than carers. I think I know the answer to the initial query (that no charges would be asked for) but I'm not certain

Important info can be lost but I wouldn't rely too much on what was in the removed posts in this case. I remember there was some nonsense mixed in with some useful stuff in Homes123's posts and it's hard to sort one from the other sometimes. I know that Brimoan seemed to find the stuff helpful but that's not surprising.
If you have a query, oj, you could ask it on here- there are some genuine users such as Tilly2 who have experience of care home issues and Barmaid who is a legal expert and probably knows about POA. Alternatively, Age Concern or CAB will be a good starting point

Well, I'm rubbish at spotting things like that lol
I know on a parenting forum I used to help moderate we had many 100's of women get pregnant with twins, triplets etc then lose them rather dramatically and 99% of those were outed as fakes and I never saw those coming :(

i would refuse to attend on principle, and make them pay for the staff and the travel. you can meet him at the centre where he is treated and stay with him - you certainly do not have to pay for travel or staff. if they are going to be difficult about it....be difficult right back. and tell them why - they are legally bound to get him to necessary hospital/treatment appointments and the required number of escorts (i am a psych nurse and this is a daily part of my job). they should be grateful for your help and not pressure you to pay just because you go with him. idiots.
