For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.No, it's the 2nd and 12th all right. You are looking at the wrong grouping of the first 3 letters of the 6 required. Having said that, has anyone any idea about the final step? I can see the right number of contiguous letters, but they don't spell out a word (merely list the required letters) - so I must be missing something. More staring required, fortified by a gl...
The Bear - yes, that's the obvious thing but there's no instance of the 1st letter in the grid. I've examined every cell in all 6 directions (and found a few new words in the process - never a bad thing) but discovered nothing relevant. Even the 5-letter English word (being the translation of the obvious one to which you refer) forms a shape with its 5 letters, but does not "read" as a word. More staring, but with dwindling interest. Otherwise a nice puzzle with nice twists, and no, you don't have to skim the novel for the 5 highlighted entries.
Thanks for that, but having discovered the last bit (it would have been nice to have been told the number of letters in the preamble - the others were given: why not this?) google has posed another problem. Is the colour used the one following the word in google, or the obvious one describing the 5 entities rather than their principal ingredient? And "overwritten" would surely imply that the former choice would obliterate the important letters underneath. Oh dear! another poorly thought-out preamble. My preference is for the latter choice which I will use to write the letters in question.
'Help me' - please. That's a clue to the 12th line whilst savouring a glass of .....
I've filled in all the grid but I can't manipulate 3 letters on the 2nd line to make a sensible 6 letter word. I've examined which crossing down clues can be changed and the only six letter word I can get is ACANAL. It's watery but surely not the answer.
