There appears to at least three possible solutions to the unclued 4 Across. Is there a way to resolve this?

Not quite finished yet , but might they all be animals, thus only one alternative for 4a??

There doesn't seem to be any other connection than 'four of each'.

It's not only 4a that has alternative solutions.

I can't see a theme to the unclued lights at all apart from the obvious four of a kind .I can only get one word to fit on 39a and several choices for 4a .
All went went well on Roslyns suggestion until 31d which could mean a bear or a mistake !

As I read the instructions and the title, all three possibilities for 4a should be accepted. I'm going for the most common of the three, which I don't have to look up in a dictionary, and yes, zita-green, it is a craft.
